In 2009, about 1.13 million animals were victims of animal experimentation in America. In Canada and Great Britian, the numbers are even higher. 76,001 animals we're given pain medication. In Great Britain, more than half of the animals (2.7 million) were not given anesthesia. In Canada, neary 100,000 animals were expected to have pain "above the pain tolerance" and were denied medication to allow them suffer less. Fortunately, Finland and Ireland lowed the rate of their animal testing. In contrast, Spain, Sweden, and Greece doubled their testing on animals. Animals in labs are given deadly diseases such as AIDS, leprocy, and even cancer. Some are given brain damage and heart problems. Pregant animals are subjected to tobacco smake and alcohol to see what it will do to their infant. Only 8% of medications tested on animals actually make it past the first phase of the human trial. So 92% of animals suffered horribly for nothing. Additionally, only 6% of animals are actually used for medical testing. 94% of animals are used to test household items.
Where Do The Funds Come From?

The funds for animal experimentation comes from a variety of places that I found very suprising. Money comes from tax payers money, donations, lottery tickets, U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). In addition, various charities such as The March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,Lance Armstrong Foundation, Breast Cancer Campaign (including Wear It Pink) and so, so many more. The March of Dimes Foundation even funded experiments where kitties had their eyes sewn shut, pregnant monkeys were forced to give birth early and then their babies were killed, and they even funded tests on the effects of nicotine and cocaine on pregnant animals. Another experiment funded by them was a study of premature lambs, were the breathing was artificially manipulated. This caused serious injuries to the lungs. The baby lambs were then killed at the end of the experiment. Medaille College in Buffalo, NY even does animal testing in their labs.
What Hapens In These Labs?
In Animal Testing Labs, awful things take place. mice, rats, sheep, cattle, horses, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds are all commonly experimented on. These animals sometimes have holes drilled into their heads, their backs crushed, skin and fur burned off, restrained for hours, and sometimes must breathe in deadly fumes. They may also be poisoned, stuff may be forced into their eyes, shot, blown up, mutated, and even given cancer.
